At a Glance
The Minnesota Orchestra steps into spring with the profound and tender slow movement from the First String Quartet of George Walker, who, in 1996, became the first African American composer to win a Pulitzer Prize. Music Director Osmo Vänskä also conducts the ensemble in Beethoven’s Fourth Symphony, a work of strength, humor and optimism that looks forward to the warmer days of spring and summer. In between, we take a ride through Ravel’s kaleidoscopic Piano Concerto in G, performed by the fearless French pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet in his first performance at Orchestra Hall in a decade.
