At a Glance

The Minnesota Orchestra welcomes in summer and welcomes YOU back to Orchestra Hall with a concert that celebrates deep roots and dramatic transformation. Music Director Osmo Vänskä returns to the podium for Hector Berlioz’ wildly fun Le Corsaire Overture and Richard Strauss’ great masterwork Death and Transfiguration. At the center, pianist Jon Kimura Parker performs Florence Price’s Piano Concerto for the first time in both his career and in the Orchestra’s history.

Conductor Dima Slobodeniouk is not able to appear with the Minnesota Orchestra on July 16 and 17 because of COVID-19-related visa and travel restrictions. Osmo Vänskä will conduct in place of Mr. Slobodeniouk.

Ken-David Masur makes his Minnesota Orchestra conducting debut in a concert that honors musical heroes and hometown heroes. Jon Kimura Parker shares the stage with the Orchestra performing music by legends such as George Gershwin, John Williams, William Grant Still, Amy Beach and Samuel Barber. After a year of great adversity in the world, we offer this program in the spirit of celebration and deep gratitude.
