Remembering Joel Revzen

Remembering Joel Revzen

The Minnesota Orchestra family joins the choral and orchestral world in mourning the recent passing of Joel Revzen, an internationally-renowned conductor who was a leading figure in the Twin Cities choral scene as the Minnesota Chorale's artistic director from 1983 to 1994.

During his tenure with the Chorale, Joel prepared the ensemble for numerous performances with the Minnesota Orchestra, and for a 1989 recording of Charles Wuorinen’s Genesis with the Minnesota Orchestra and Minnesota Chorale. He also conducted the Minnesota Orchestra in several Young People’s and pops concerts in the 1980s and ’90s. Kathy Saltzman Romey, Joel’s successor at the Minnesota Chorale who also serves as the Minnesota Orchestra’s choral advisor, shared moving reflections on Joel’s place in the music world and his influence on her and the Chorale.
