Jaclyn Rainey

Associate Principal Horn

Jaclyn Rainey is associate principal horn of the Minnesota Orchestra, a position she began in spring 2024 after serving over a year in an acting capacity. Before joining the Orchestra, Rainey was the principal horn of the Atlanta Symphony, associate principal horn with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, third horn with the Atlanta Symphony, acting principal horn with the Naples Philharmonic and associate principal horn with the Louisiana Philharmonic.

Rainey, a native of Louisville, Kentucky, has also performed with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony, Buffalo Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Cincinnati Symphony, Dallas Symphony, Detroit Symphony, Kansas City Symphony, Louisville Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony, San Antonio Symphony, Sarasota Orchestra and Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. She has spent summers performing at the Tanglewood Music Center, Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, Chautauqua Institution, Festival Mozaic, Lakes Area Music Festival and Mainly Mozart. Also during the summer months, Rainey has served on the faculty of the Brevard Music Center, Interlochen Arts Camp and the New England Conservatory’s Summer Orchestra Institute.

Rainey has toured with the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Carnegie Hall in New York City and across Europe, and with the Los Angeles Philharmonic in Asia, Europe and Mexico. She has also competed in solo competitions and was a winner in the National MTNA Senior Brass Competition. When not performing, she has served on the faculty of Emory University and Georgia State University in addition to maintaining a private teaching studio. Rainey joins the faculty of the University of Minnesota School of Music in the fall of 2024.

She received her undergraduate degree in horn performance from the Eastman School of Music, followed by a master’s degree at the New England Conservatory of Music, and has studied with W. Peter Kurau, Richard Sebring and James Sommerville.
