Sarah Hicks leads the Minnesota Orchestra in the world premiere performance of the complete film with live orchestra accompaniment
In Minnesota Orchestra concerts on July 6 and 7 at Orchestra Hall, Principal Conductor of Live at Orchestra Hall Sarah Hicks leads the world premiere of the live orchestra version of Disney-Pixar’s Coco, in which the Orchestra performs the award-winning score as the film is shown in full on a large screen. The 2017 animated film Coco follows a 12-year-old boy who is accidentally transported to the Land of the Dead, where he must find his great-great-grandfather, a deceased musician, in order to return to the Land of the Living. The performances mark the start of the Orchestra’s monthlong Música Juntos Sommerfest celebrating Latin American music.
Coco features a score by Michael Giacchino, an award-winning film and television composer who has also scored such Hollywood blockbusters as Jurassic World, Incredibles 2, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Zootopia, Star Trek and Up. Coco has been critically praised for its animation, voice acting and celebration of Mexican culture, winning an Academy Award®, a BAFTA Award and a Golden Globe® for Best Animated Feature, as well as an Academy Award for Best Song.
The concert is performed at the Orchestra’s home venue of Orchestra Hall in downtown Minneapolis on Saturday, July 6, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, July 7, at 2 p.m., with ticket prices ranging from $35 to $85. More information is available at minnesotaorchestra.org and by phone at 612-371-5656. For further purchasing details, refer to the information section at the conclusion of this press release.
