Casual series at Orchestra Hall is led by conductor Sarah Hicks and hosted by Sam Bergman
February 16 concert features Stravinsky’s Petrushka and other works
The Minnesota Orchestra performs an Inside the Classics program on Saturday, February 16, taking a close look at Igor Stravinsky’s Petrushka. The work was one of three major ballet scores—along with Firebird and The Rite of Spring—the legendary Russian composer wrote for Sergei Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes in Paris during the years 1910 to 1913. On the first half of the concert, host and Orchestra violist Sam Bergman and conductor Sarah Hicks will delve into the history of this ballet, and the Orchestra will play additional music by Richard Wagner, Maurice Ravel and Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. The Orchestra will perform Petrushka in full after intermission.
Inside the Classics is a Minnesota Orchestra concert series that explores great musical works through performances and enlightening conversation. The programs for this series are designed by Orchestra violist Sam Bergman and Principal Conductor of Live at Orchestra Hall Sarah Hicks. Additional Inside the Classics concerts this year feature Amy Beach’s Gaelic Symphony on April 13 and the music of LGBT artists on June 1. Each Inside the Classics concert features a pre-concert happy hour, local craft brews and an opportunity to meet musicians onstage after the performance.
This Minnesota Orchestra concert is performed at the ensemble’s home venue in downtown Minneapolis, Orchestra Hall, on Saturday, February 16, 2019, at 8 p.m., with ticket prices ranging from $30 to $50. More information is available at minnesotaorchestra.org and by phone at 612-371-5656. For further purchasing details, refer to the information section at the conclusion of this press release.
