Sarah Hicks leads the Minnesota Orchestra in two live performances of the score as the complete 1991 animated film is shown on screen
On December 22 the Minnesota Orchestra performs the 1991 animated Disney classic Beauty and the Beast live in concert at the Minneapolis Convention Center Auditorium, under the direction of Principal Conductor of Live at Orchestra Hall Sarah Hicks. The performances feature the Orchestra playing the complete score by Alan Menken, including popular original songs such as Belle, Be Our Guest and Beauty and the Beast, while the entire film is shown on a large screen above the stage. Based on the French fairy tale by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont, Beauty and the Beast tells the love story of a prince who has been transformed into a monster and a young woman who is imprisoned in his castle. The film, which was directed by Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise with screenplay by Linda Woolverton, earned two Academy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards and five Grammy Awards, among its many accolades. It is the first animated film ever nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture and was the basis for a 2017 live-action version.
These performances are held in the Minneapolis Convention Center Auditorium on Saturday, December 22, 2018, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., with tickets priced from $35 to $85. Tickets are available at minnesotaorchestra.org and by phone at 612-371-5656. For further purchasing details, refer to the information section at the conclusion of this press release.
