Sarah Hicks conducts a program celebrating the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day
On November 10, the United States Naval Academy Glee Club will make its Minnesota Orchestra debut in a performance led by Sarah Hicks, principal conductor of Live at Orchestra Hall. The concert takes place one day before the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day, which commemorates the end of World War I, and which now coincides with Veterans Day—an official U.S. public holiday honoring our military veterans. The evening’s program will include a variety of musical selections from grand operas, Broadway shows, film soundtracks and patriotic classics.
The concert is held at Orchestra Hall in downtown Minneapolis on Saturday, November 10, at 8 p.m., with ticket prices ranging from $40 to $110. More information is available at minnesotaorchestra.org and by phone at 612-371-5656. For further purchasing details, refer to the information section at the conclusion of this press release.
The U.S. Naval Academy Glee Club
The United States Naval Academy Glee Club, directed by Dr. Aaron Smith, consists of The United States Naval Academy Men’s Glee Club, which has achieved prominence as one of the world’s premier men’s choruses, and The United States Naval Academy Women’s Glee Club, which is the only all-female military choral ensemble in the world. These ensembles are components of the United States Naval Academy’s musical activities department, which is the primary source of fine arts education for the Brigade of Midshipmen. The Glee Clubs often combine with the nation’s leading orchestras to perform masterpieces of choral-orchestral literature, and they perform extensively throughout the U.S. and countries around the world. Other recent notable performances include appearances at the dedication ceremony of the 9/11 Pentagon Memorial, the Ronald Reagan Freedom Award ceremony, the Commissioning Ceremony and Gala for the George H. W. Bush Aircraft Carrier (CVN-77), and the Presidential Inaugural Concert “We Are One” on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, among many other events. More: usna.edu/music.
