Unpaid Position

Spring Semester 2019 

Founded in 1903, the Minnesota Orchestra is one of America’s finest and longest-established Orchestras. The Orchestra is a major arts institution in this region with an international reputation for excellence. Our concerts are attended by nearly 350,000 people each year.

Position Summary

The position provides the opportunity to gain first-hand experience analyzing and reporting survey and focus group data for a large nonprofit organization. Responsibilities are specific to projects evaluating the Minnesota Orchestra’s Orchestra Hall Plus (OH+) and North Minneapolis Common Chords programs. A commitment of 5-10 hours per week from late January to mid-May 2018 is required.


  1. OH+ Focus Group Project:
    1. Attend seven 45-minute focus groups between February 2 and May 4, 2019
    2. Transcribe audio recordings
    3. Analyze data from focus groups and patron surveys
    4. Report preliminary findings and recommendations to project managers
    5. Compile written report with final recommendations and high-level executive summary
    6. Present findings to Minnesota Orchestra staff
  2. North Minneapolis Common Chords Project:
    1. Analyze data from post-event surveys
    2. Report preliminary findings and recommendations to project managers
    3. Compile written report with final recommendations and high-level executive summary
    4. Present findings to Minnesota Orchestra staff
  3. Other duties as assigned


  • Student: Junior-standing Bachelor’s Degree student or Master’s Degree student
  • A self-starter comfortable with taking initiative and working independently
  • Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Experience and skill in gathering, editing, analyzing and interpreting quantitative and qualitative data
  • Advanced organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Critical, analytical thinking and problem solving
