Founded in 1903, the Minnesota Orchestra is one of America’s finest and longest-established orchestras.  The Orchestra is a major arts institution in this region with an international reputation for excellence.  Our concerts are attended by nearly 300,000 people each year.

Position Summary:

The position provides the opportunity to gain first-hand experience in a large nonprofit events department. Responsibilities will vary depending on the event schedule and day-to-day priorities of the department. A commitment of 20 hours per week for a minimum of three months is required. Beginning and end dates are flexible.


  • Assist with the coordination of private rental events
    • Responding to inquiries
    • Preparing for site visits and tours
    • Maintaining data and mailing lists
    • Tracking paperwork such as contracts, deposits and invoices
    • Collecting event information and logistics from clients
  • Prepare floor plans and work closely with facilities team to oversee furniture set-up
  • Serve as on-site events assistant
  • Welcome clients upon arrival and coordinate with catering partners and bartending staff
  • Analyze data and create surveys and reports


  • Student: Junior-standing Bachelor’s Degree student or Master’s Degree student
  • Performing arts interest or background a plus (music, visual art, museum, etc.)
  • Ability to communicate effectively and confidently with all types of personalities
  • Ability to be flexible and problem-solve with quick turn-around
  • Ability to work nights and weekends
  • Possess a strong desire to learn more about the events industry within a world-class organization;
  • Be detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills
  • Consistently exhibit a professional and pleasant demeanor to clients, vendors, and internal staff
